Fasting – 3 days – Feeling great!
Have you heard of the benefits of fasting and eating less? It turns out it’s very healthy not to eat sometimes.
The scientists say prolonged fasting appears to shift stem cells of the immune system from a dormant state to an active state of self-renewal.
Since I became vegetarian 4 years ago, I have forgotten what the animal hunger is and fasting has become enjoyable, not a torture. I usually do it a few times a month, during Ekadashi. But I’m thinking to make it a more regular habit, once a week maybe. Also drinking lots of water helps to avoid hunger. Quite often our brain mistakes thirst for hunger, so having a glass bottle of water around is a nice habit to have. I always fill up a glass bottle before I go to bed and drink half a liter as soon as I wake up.
I’ve noticed that I have more stamina and energy when I fast, anyone else noticed this? Second day fasting today, got up at 6am, strapped my surfboard to my bike and headed out to the Ku De Ta beach in Bali. Started off with a 5 km barefoot run along the beautiful shoreline, the sunrise was reflecting on the wet sand, left by the receding tide. Sometimes the waves would cross my path, making me lift my knees higher as I ran, good exercise.
After the warm up I went for an hour of surfing, the waves weren’t too great, but I’ve still managed to catch a few nices ones and the last one took me all the way back to the shore. When I got home, I went for a swim in the pool to wash off the salt and swam a record 25 lengths, I could never be bothered to do that before, 10 was the usual amount.
I’m still full of energy as I am writing this, this will be a productive day!
